Data Loss Prevention Is Not the Same as Data Governance

DLP limits connector combinations; data governance defines meaning, ownership, access, quality and lifecycle.

A tenant can have excellent DLP coverage and poor data governance. Policies may prevent SharePoint and social-media connectors from mixing while nobody knows which SharePoint list is authoritative, what its fields mean or who should have access.

Data governance establishes classification, ownership, retention, quality and authorised use. Power Platform controls should consume those decisions through environment placement, roles, connectors and lifecycle rules.

DLP cannot infer the meaning of data from the brand name of its connector. Use it to enforce broad movement boundaries, then govern records and business purpose where that context actually exists.
